This depends entirely on what's in python-minimal. At 2MB, I have my doubts that most Python programs/modules in Debian will work. I agree with Steve. Unless we're going to make this package Essential, it's kind of pointless (unless compatibility with Ubuntu is a primary goal -- maybe it should be, but then someone needs to explain why, because it's not obviosu to me).
