Something that may have been lost earlier in this thread is that apt-file *does* Recommend curl. The apt-file maintainer believes that it is useful enough to install apt-file without curl to justify weaking that to a Recommendation. Unless you are going to discuss that point specifically, the proper place to send your complaints is bug #42266. Daniel
