Well I do think i386-uclibc will help another subarches, like arm-uclibc armeb-uclibc, mips-uclibc and so on... One thing I failed was building a toolchain for a subarch inside my own system (without chrooting)... This would help everybody to get the base +build-essential packages faster. I'm just moving because I gave up on this and started using gentoo-embedded as a start.
