That's a nice idea. Although there are many more ways that you can actually contribute. > Because of my limited bandwidth, 1mb/512 or 2mb/1mb I was thinking that > I could do a local mirror for my country (Costa Rica) to provide > releases of Debian Full CD's or for an apt repo. Maybe Sid's? You may want to read http://www.debian.org/mirror/. The complete archive is about 120 GB large and changing constantly. You can mirror parts only. But I believe that 1024/512 kbps is not much considering the size of even the CDs. A single user would need to wait 3-4 hours to download a single CD if the bandwidth is fully available. Mirrors usually need a few Mbps upstream bandwidth. > Sorry for asking here, I have no idea where else, (I could actually > browse the whole mailing list directory for a better place, but maybe is > OK here. Sure, no problem. > What other service could I give to the local or global Debian? Anything you can think of. Supporting your local user group. Helping on IRC (#debian). Helping at bug squashing parties online and offline. Submitting patches to fix reported bugs in bugs.debian.org. Help translating documentation. Help on mailing lists.
