Note that that discussion was about appending the local (i.e. a real,
existing) domain to localhost, and that indeed is problematic (first of
all, there is _no_ single "local domain" for multi-homed machines).

Appending a non-existent TLD to localhost is somewhat different, and is
not addressed in the RFC.
