The Debian mentors site runs a version of apache as packaged by Ubuntu. That doesn't mean it doesn't run Debian. Even if it did mean that, there's nothing wrong with that; it's been done before --- OpenBSD runs its main website on Solaris (IIRC; at least it's _not_ running on OpenBSD).
