Actually, if somebody wants to help, (s)he is always welcome. First of all, being a good porter would be a great help. This includes (but is not limited) to skim through the RC-bug-list and work on arch-specific issues, answer to calls for help on e.g. the kernel (currently for sparc and arm), work on the woody->sarge upgrade issues (but please coordinate before with the people already working on it). Also, anybody is free to e.g. subscribe to the debian-release mailing list. We usually notice people who are doing a great job.
