Well, jdk packages represent jdk 1.0.2, the other -- jdk 1.1.1 Java interpreter is 2 times faster in 1.1.1 plus much expanded API, but it is new and only a few browsers support it. Though description claims that you can have both packages installed and being used, you will have to fix some scripts which come with the package (most notably /usr/bin/appletviewer-jdk) to make it happen. Installing either one will probably work without a problem.
