I'm currently working on svgalib (mostly for libc6). As it stands now, I would like to make the following name-changes: svgalib1 -> svgalib1g (libc6 protocol) svgalib1-dev -> svgalib1g-dev (libc6 protocol) svgalib1-bin -> svgalib-bin (there's no reason to put the soname in a package that uses svgalib1g, I'd say). aout-svgalib -> - (obvious)
So, for the libraries at least I will not need the epoch's any more, as I'm changing the name of the package. The thing that worries me is svgalib-bin: there may be (very old) versions of a package called "svgalib-bin" around, with a version like 1.210, though it seems that very far in the past the whole lot was just called "svgalib", with no package-subdivisions. So, I'd like to know: - has there ever been a "svgalib-bin" package? - if so, was this just a brief period in "unstable", or am I likely to encounter users who upgrade from say 1.1 that still have a "svgalib-bin" package. - what's the version of that "svgalib-bin" package (if it exist)? higer than 1.2.10 -- (like 1.210), or am I lucky and was it still 0.99 or something? If nobody responds, I'll assume the distribution of "svgalib-bin" packages isn't very widespread, and I can just use that name. (Oh, and remind me to also upgrade the upstream source, somebody once reported that there was a security bug in 1.2.10, but the guy never actually bothered to say what the bug was[1], so I'm not very inclined to trust him).
