Oh, konsole? No idea, as I don't use KDE. I saw your mentions of font problems elsewhere in this thread. Have you tried, say, uxterm with a known-good UTF-8 font? I use '-misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--15-140-75-75-c-*-iso10646-1' on my work machine.
