Hi, The way I've always broken into a Linux box when it's been seriously broken or the root password's been forgotten is to go "linux init=/bin/sh" at the LILO prompt.
However, this doesn't appear to have the desired effect when you've got a system that boots with an initrd. Can anyone enlighten me as to how you do it when there's an initrd in use? Andrew
