After posting the message, I realized there was a cvs repository
mentioned in the debian-desktop pages, with an ongoing menu rewrite.  It
didn't seem active, though: last commit appeared to be5 months ago.
There's also a policy proposal in there that looks very similar to the
one I made here, and we could merge them.

I've just written to Chris asking for his current situation wrt the
menu system.  If he's still in, I hope he joins the discussion.

If he can't work on it anymore, I'd suggest we take on from where he
left.

In both cases, shall we assemble a working team?  Is there someone
interested in joining Chris(maybe) and me?
