I think however it is implemented, it will open a whole can of worms. Also note the mess the move of sparc64 from */lib/64 to */lib64 caused to woddy. (one needs a "dpkg -r libc6-sparc64 libgcc1 libstdc++3 gcc-3.0 fakeroot && apt-get -u upgrade && apt-get install fakeroot" and perhaps some additional "dpkg --configure -a" if one missed something in between to upgrade to a new glibc.
