But some people do deliberately "apt-cache search GNOME 2" to find new GTK+2.0 based software that they want to try out. A lot of software that was originally written for GNOME 1.x, but still have no GNOME 2 equivalent are more often than not no longer maintained by upstream, and thus avoided by some. It's psychology, I'm afraid. Almost every other GNOME 2 application is doing this as well.
