They are NOT text files in the Unix sense of the word, so diff cannot handle them. file(1) shows: $ file gammu_pl.txt gammu_us.txt gammu_pl.txt: Little-endian UTF-16 Unicode character data gammu_us.txt: Little-endian UTF-16 Unicode character data So something is wrong just by virtue of the fact that these files are carrying a .txt extension. If I try to convert these files into a sensible encoding on my system, I get a long string of CJK characters. Is that what these files are supposed to contain? -- Steve Langasek postmodern programmer
