Right, but in your case, dpkg-source is probably being called with the right name. What happens if you run dpkg-source -b <pkg> (pointing to the symlink)? When I try it, I get a broken Debian native source package with a .tar.gz containing only the symlink: lrwxrwxrwx mdz/mdz 0 2002-01-06 18:11:28 foo -> vmnet-0.4 I suspect this is what happened to the original poster, whose transcript showed that, for whatever reason (human or software), dpkg-source -b was run with the name of the symlink as its argument. -- - mdz
