Yes. Otherwise the binary will not run. IMHO gs should use dynamic loading for both svgalib and the xlibraries. gs can still be useful on systems that don't have both (or even none) of them. This should not be too difficult to implement under ELF (see "ELF: From The Programmer's Perspective" by H.J. Lu (http://www.debian.org/Documentation/elf/elf.html)), once we have an ELF svgalib and ELF X-libraries (not under /usr/i486-linuxelf).
