I just installed xtet42 on my system and is runs fine. I didn't notice any delay in starting (up and playing in less than 20 seconds). The only problem I noticed is at installation time xtet42 depends on X11R6 and I don't run an X server on my Debian machine. My X server is on my Win 95 machine.
