(For systemd) I've so far generally not have problems getting Debian patches accepted upstream. There are some patches we carry because we want to continue supporting deprecated features longer than they do. It's also a stated goal upstream to move towards one way to do things, so in the cases where Debian does one thing, RH does another and so on, we generally have to come to some sort of agreement.
