This is not a comment in support of or against Mumble, rather, it is looking beyond Mumble
A few weeks ago I put up a wiki page about alternatives to mumble: http://wiki.debian.org/AlternativesToMumble and I've put up an ITP (sponsor needed) for SylkServer (supports SIP, Jabber and IRC conferencing) http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=682698 Ultimately, the widespread deployment of standards-based solutions (such as SylkServer and others mentioned in the wiki) should eliminate any need for anyone to run Mumble and then celt can be put to rest. It should be emphasized that many of the open solutions using standard codecs interact very well. The only reason Mumble has become prominent is the convenience of setting it up compared to something like Asterisk MeetMe. For example, I run an Asterisk `MeetMe' conference room with about 5 codecs enabled. I call in from a Polycom SIP phone on my desk, another person calls in from a Google Talk client on iPhone (using Jabber). Completely different platforms, standard codecs, all works together. It would be good to get feedback on the ITP and wiki and maybe even a sponsor? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-ctte-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
