Yes, this has come up before. OpenStack clouds, for example, need
virtual CD-ROM access in order to pass cloud-init metadata via a
"config drive," but since virtual CD-ROMs aren't used as a feature
in AWS or Azure that driver isn't included in genericcloud images.
The usual advice has been that if you're booting in AWS or Azure
then use genericcloud images, but for any other cloud
platforms/providers you may need to use the generic images rather
than genericcloud.
