Make sure you use a recent XFree86 and the xterm that comes with it should be fine. If you run it in a Unicode locale (like zh_TW.UTF-8), xterm will recognise that and enable multibyte support automatically. (I don't know if that works for Big5 or GB locales, too, but I don't really bother about anything but Unicode anymore.) I don't know if you need to explicitly set the fonts, it probably has reasonable defaults, but anyway, I have XTerm*VT100*font: -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--18-120-100-100-c-90-iso10646-1 XTerm*VT100*wideFont: -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal-ja-18-120-100-100-c-180-iso10646-1 in my ~/.Xresources.
