It is impossible to make a CD which is bootable on all computers, sorry. One possibility is that your laptop's CD drive (or the way it is connected to the laptop) is not supported by Linux. In general, installing Linux on laptops can be tricky, especially on newer laptops. Check the "Linux on laptops" website (sorry, no URL, search for it) to see whether your laptop is supported at all.
