The issue itself is not fixed. Only a few packages got some workarounds.
The issue itself is, that gettext cannot be used with automake < 1.8. I
did not read, that upstream intended to break with automake here. Maybe
I missed that comment? My only intention was to mention, that an
m4_ifdef construct would not break with any automake version and that's
maybe a better general solution.
