Removing the package does not render the software obsolete, but the
packaged version is so outdated that no sane person would run it from
packages. Rather, you'd do a git clone and run it from source.

In the event that someone takes up the work of uploading git to the
archive, the package may become useful again, but as it is, it is not
useful an poses a cost to QA efforts. I stand by my recommendation of
removing the package unless other action is taken.
