Dear maintainer,

As you know, the upstream gLabels maintainer shifted attention to a Qt rewrite
several years ago that may not be a drop-in replacement, but that hasn't had
any release yet either due to the author's dwindling ability to work on it. On
the other hand, it's very feature-complete so maybe this is a good sign in a
"no news is good news" kind of way.

Since gLabels 4 is not yet in the archive (but you filed ITP #1003832) and I'm
hopeful the leadership situation will be sorted out for Forky, I suggest that
if possible, a patch of our own creation be applied as a stopgap measure for
Trixie. I think I can figure out how to do it, so please let me know if this
would be welcome. If so, I can prepare an upload and ask you to sponsor it.
(I'm a DM so I don't have uploading rights for this package.) After it
glabels-qt makes it in the archive, I was thinking we could add a NEWS entry to
gLabels 3 informing users that they should try migrating when they get the
chance.

If I don't hear back from you in some reasonable amount of time, I will
consider doing an NMU if my mentors/sponsors agree that this is justified.
By the way, it appears that gLabels can use the Zint library as a barcode
backend, but it hasn't been getting compiled in since this isn't a build
dependency. From looking at the source package it looks like this has probably
been an unintentional omission, so if you're okay with it I'd like to make that
change too.

Thanks,
John
