Ah, cherry-picking that commit fixed it for me. I've gone ahead and
uploaded that to Debian in order to close this RC bug, but please do
feel free to also release a libfiu v1.2 as well.
That would have the added advantage of "clearing out" the other patch
we had to apply re. Link-Time Optimisation.
