I feel like working on it myself as I have a setup for reproducing it (it needs a version of NR database, ~100 GB) and I have located the approximate location in the code (cd-hit output parsing). It could help me a lot if someone knew the changes in cd-hit output since 4.8.1, though, as I am not a frequent user.
