The best solution appears to be encouraging and supporting this friendly fork: https://github.com/ggreer/the_silver_searcher/issues/1515 The next best solution appears to be switching to a fork that fixed this pcre3 issue (and added the new PCRE2 support); however, it's also currently unmaintained.
