The problem seems to be basically the same as in https://bugs.debian.org/1034236 When systemd.pc is not found, it falls back on hard-coded path in: https://sources.debian.org/src/mpdscribble/0.24-2/systemd/system/meson.build/#L1-L4 As pkg-config is already part of build-deps, simply adding systemd (for systemd.pc) should be enough to fix the problem.
