Hi Helmut,thanks for filing this bug. I didn't discover this side effect during my testing.
The cause of this FTBFS seems to be a changed error return code from quilt. If there are no patches in the series file, it now returns 1 instead of 2. The program dh_quilt_unpatch relies on the previous error code, though, and fails.
Although it's probably a rather trivial code change in dh_quilt_unpatch, I agree with you that the timing is too close to the freeze.
I'll upload a new version of quilt which reverts upstream back to 0.66. Regards, Tobias
