I have somewhat reason to at least suspect the µSD card this was installed on. But there was never anything in syslog/dmesg about it, so the Linux kernel clearly didn’t find fault with it at all. Suggestions how I can prove/disprove this welcome; I now swapped the filesystem contents to a new fs on a new µSD card, so tests that are destructive can be done, but they need to be doable from a Grml live ISO and should be doable overnight (i.e. not block the system for too long).
