The package obviously has no support for python3.10; there are python3.9 bugs as well.

Could you elaborate? The issue you copy/pasted above is a pure python3.10 regression.

It is abandoned upstream. I suggest filing a RM bug for this package.

Sure, but somebody that assessed the situation has to do that. Until somebody does that, at least this bug will remove the package from testing in due time.
