Well, it seems the NetBSD community has a patch: http://cvsweb.netbsd.org/bsdweb.cgi/pkgsrc/textproc/ruby-ferret/patches/ Please note, that Fedora applied a bunch of other patches as well before they removed the package: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/rubygem-ferret/tree/a0b3fd879133bf69f6ea59d35b54ec857358e959 I haven't checked, if all of them have been applied to the Debian package as well.
