Hi so it turned out that for the other two involved packages it was possible, so we should continue pursue that goal. There are probably two options: use convert in debian/rules (and live/auto/config).
live/auto/config has a comment on using convert, depending if this is still valid just using pre-exported PNGs as game-data-packager has done would be a solution). Regards, Salvatore
