The bug is inside the patch you linked to. However, the fix Bastian
suggested requires a fix in R itself. Dirk kept you in the row whether
you might imagine some other solution that does not require a change in
R.
(I personally need to admit I need to trust you here since despite I'm
packaging lots of R packages for Debian my R knowledge is extremely
limited.)
