With a recent upload of xapian-bindings the autopkgtest of xapers fails
in testing when that autopkgtest is run with the binary packages of
xapian-bindings from unstable. It passes when run with only packages
from testing. In tabular form:
pass fail
xapian-bindings from testing 1.4.8-1
xapers from testing 0.8.2-1
all others from testing from testing
I copied some of the output at the bottom of this report. Interestingly
enough, the test reports 55 tests failed, but autopkgtest doesn't fail
on that. The autopkgtest fails on the fact that there is output on stderr.
Currently this regression is contributing to the delay of the migration
of xapian-bindings to testing [1]. Due to the nature of this issue, I
filed this bug report against both packages. Can you please investigate
the situation and reassign the bug to the right package? If needed,
please change the bug's severity.

file quoted below. The migration software adds source package from
unstable to the list if they are needed to install packages from
xapian-bindings/1.4.8-1. I.e. due to versioned dependencies or
breaks/conflicts.
