--- Begin Message ---Source: numexpr Version: 2.6.2-1 Severity: serious Justification: makes pytables FTBFS Control: affects -1 src:pytables Dear maintainer, The changelog for numexpr 2.6.2-1 says: numexpr (2.6.2-1) unstable; urgency=medium [...] * Drop -dbg package declaration (now debug packages are automatically generated) This is not true. The automatically generated dbgsym packages only contain the debugging symbols for the C extension files. However, the former -dbg packages contained the extensions built for Python debug interpreter: $ dpkg -L python3-numexpr-dbg /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/numexpr/interpreter.cpython-35dm-x86_64-linux-gnu.so /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/numexpr/interpreter.cpython-36dm-x86_64-linux-gnu.so [...] These files are needed when you want to use numexpr with the debug interpreter, i.e. /usr/bin/python3-dbg; and they are not present in the automatic dbgsym packages. So please revert dropping the -dbg packages. This was also discussed on debian-python mailing list several times, i.e.: https://lists.debian.org/debian-python/2016/04/msg00093.html I am setting the severity to serious to prevent the new upload from migrating to testing; please feel free to downgrade it if you want. -- Dmitry Shachnev
