I also want to mention, that systemd-nspawn came in pretty handy when debugging this. A "debootstrap sid /var/lib/machines/sid" and "systemd-nspawn -b -D /var/lib/machines/sid" (or you machinectl if you prefer), and you can test a crashing systemd without affecting your running system. -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
