Package: apt Version: 0.6.43.2 Severity: critical Justification: causes serious data loss
I intended to purge dbus-1 so I could make sure that the config files were the Debian defaults. I intended to re-install dbus-1 immediately afterwards. So, I did apt-get --purge dbus-1 I expected this to purge dbus-1. I expected that other packages would be removed (because they depend on dbus-1), but not purged. Lo and Behold, a dozen packages were purged. The darn thing didn't even stop to ask me! This is an annoying loss of config files for the other packages. It could be a critical loss sometimes. Because the user does not know all the dependencies, the user may not intend for everything to be purged. This is a critical error because a minor error could easily disable many packages in a way that cannot be simply repaired and causes an unexpected loss of data for other packages.
