Package: apt
Version: 1.0.9.8.1
Severity: serious
Justification: serious programming error with unclear source

Dear Maintainer,
apt-get runs some perl code, which has syntax errors. I do not know
which program is run and what directives are failing (and possibly
corrupting apt-data?), also i am not quite sure against which package i
should file to bug, but as it happens repeatedly and seems serious,
here's the problem:

Hi,

I don't know in which package the problem is, but this trace shows a
perl parsing error in a maintainer script. There's no such thing in
automysqlbackup (it's all pure shell script, not perl). So I really
don't think the issue is in automysqlbackup.

Further in this bug report, we can see the very same issue happening
just after the installation of letsencrypt, which leads me to believe
the issue is somewhere else, and unrelated, in a system which appears
somehow broken.

Since we don't know where to assign the bug, I see no other solution but
to close it until the reporter understand what's going on.

Also, another advice: please do LC_LANG=en_US before the commands you
run, so that it appears in English. I'm not even sure in which language
your system is running, but what I know is that I don't understand! :)

Cheers,

Thomas Goirand (zigo)
