A quick web search led me to this bug report in launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/pithos/+bug/1007065 Manually installing python-keybinder fixed pithos, it works fine for me now as long as I avoid mp3-hifi (bug #696496). This suggests to me that pithos needs a dependency on python-keybinder or something else that depends on it for it to work ok on systems where that isn't already being pulled in by some GNOME-related stuff?
