The bug seems to be caused by the new make (3.80+3.81.b3-1). The README.Debian lists several backwards incompatibility warnings for this version. Possibly the build failure is caused by one of those.
The build succeeded after downgrading to make 3.80-12. I'm not sure where this problem needs to be fixed: klibc, cdbs or make. I'll leave it up to you to reassign. Cheers, FJP
