I have the same problem. Running firefox from xfce does not work, but running
it from my mlterm works. In my case, the cause seems to be related to my locale.
If I run it under zh_TW.Big5, it is fine.
If I run it under a UTF-8 locale, or under the C locale, firefox displays
*** glibc detected *** corrupted double-linked list: 0x08bd9a60 ***
and hangs (it just hangs; it does not consume a lot of cpu cycles). I cannot
use ctrl-c or ctrl-z, and have to kill the firefox-bin process with SIGKILL
from another VT.
