Lisandro you are right! I hadnot enabled the lo interface in /etc/network/interfaces
The reason being that after a very bumpy dist-upgrade process to wheezy from squueze networking broke due to networking-manager removal and i setup manually without being awere that programs need lo ! (why do the need it really?) Now basket works and gwenview and freeciv! (although i not sure why gwenview need the lo ! :-).
