If the fix is correct and you have tested it, and can take care of fixing fallout, then no need to "NMU" it. Just do a normal upload, with normal version number and use something like "* Team upload" As first entry. I'd encourage all debian developers to upload their offlineimap fixes and sponsor fixes from contributors that way.
