Unfortunately, where the daemon does the backup/restore operations, it doesn't know anything about the interfaces -- or whether resolvconf is being used. So, while I agree that the backup/restore must not be done when using resolvconf, you will agree with me that just making a backup of the resolvconf symlink is _harmless_.
