That is indeed a serious bug in /those packages/, but not in this package.
If other packages mistakenly reference it in their Depends lines then that
doesn't make ttf-mscorefonts-installer violate policy. Maybe a chage in
ttf-mscorefonts-installer would help those packages, but that's a wishlist
item instead. So I'm downgrading to withlist.

I reject this proposal as the contents of this package are not
functionally equal to those in fonts-liberation so adding the claim
"Provides: fonts-liberation" is not accurate and will be confusing to say
the least. I'm therefore marking this request as wontfix.

If people make their package buggy by listing a contrib package in the
Depends line, the solution to that is that they stop doing that. I do not
believe that making inaccurate claims in this package to correct the
'temptations' of others makes Debian net better.

These fonts are not free. Debian has actively made policies against stuff
in main pulling in non-free stuff automatically. I believe a suggestion
like yours would work around that policy.

I'm also not clear on which practical problem you're trying to solve.
fonts-liberation is in main, so if you install libphp-jpgraph it will pull
in fonts-liberation. Removing the "| ttf-mscorefonts-installer" therefore
does no harm. Or what use case am I missing here?

Cheers,
Thijs
