It is quite weird to get this error on two different machines using
different architectures and even while trying two different kernels on
these two machines. Then four different configurations lead to this
message. BTW, you are right: it is "array..." and not "Array..." in
the error message. Another bad manual retyping.

iucode-tool and cpuid are installed on either machine. cpuid is
present and loaded as a module. I even tried to manually update the
microcode (downloading from Intel web site and following the other
steps described in the README.debian) with the same outcome.

If I remove intel-microcode or don't upgrade, I don't have any
probleme with kernel upgrades and grub. The i386 netbook is using the
new grub2 and the other machine is still running the old grub-legacy.
So none of them is a VM.

I send you a copy of the initramfs generated on the i386 netbook
running the 3.5-trunk kernel from experimental.
