prompted by Benni, I attempted to update the package from SVN (more
or less identical to the 2.5.0_1 version released in March), and this
particular bug is indeed fixed. I needed a fair amount of bolts and duct
tape to actually get the package to build, though. Since it's too late
for wheezy anyway, and given that upstream is "currently working on a
payed project which includes fixing Embperl for Perl 5.14 & 5.16" [1]
I think we can wait for a new stable version to be published and I'll
see if I can push our existing and my additional patches upstream.
